Eurybia divaricata / White wood aster

This low-growing, billowy, white-flowered aster grows in loose clumps and provides late-season nectar for native bees and specialist pollinators. Pearl Crescent butterfly caterpillars feed exclusively on white wood aster leaves. Its seeds are eaten all Winter by finches, sparrows, and juncos who also use the fluffy seedheads for nesting material.

This perennial thrives in dry shade as an under-tree planting or shaded ground cover.
