Cephalanthus occidentalis / Buttonbush

Sweet-smelling, globe-shaped flowers resemble pincushions. Packed with nectar, they attract many bees, butterflies, moths, and hummingbirds. After blooming, the seed balls feed many types of birds, especially waterfowl, shorebirds, and songbirds.

Grow very well in wet soils. Plants may be cut back near to the ground in early Spring to revitalize.

Note: leaves are late to emerge in Spring.
